Hugh and the team celebrate the many individuals, families or communities living the River Cottage way
For many years now, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and the River Cottage team have been asking the nation to see the sense and pleasure of sourcing food locally and seasonally.
They have delighted in spreading the word about the empowering qualities of growing your own and getting involved in the kitchen. And with the message being championed for so long it is perhaps unsurprising that Hugh and the team have come across many stories of individuals, families or communities who have taken the River Cottage philosophy to new heights
Whether it’s producing honey on a Hackney roof top, or creating a vineyard on a tenement block, there are examples of extraordinary culinary ingenuity all across the nation. In this one hour show, Hugh visits a number of locations to hear how a love of food has changed people’s lives.
The show also features some of the successes of the Landshare campaign which matches landowners with land to spare with would-be growers looking for space to cultivate their own produce. As the grow-your-own ethos gathers momentum, these stories are further proof that a passion for food, and an interest in how it's produced, can be genuinely life enriching.
